Dear Watchers:

I'M SO SORRY FOR BEING AWAY SO LONG, I MISS YOU!!!
I've just been kind of busy with college and stuff, but I'll be as active as I can when this semester ends!

Anyways, the following are my (overdue) rantings on the recent avatar casting. If your sick of this stuff just ignore it. Love yall!

Clearly the casting controversy has been around for a while now so none of this is probably going to be anything new, but I figured I'd put in my two cents on the new fire nation castings.

First, I just want to make clear that the original casting (all the main characters being white) was definately outrageous, but when McCartney dropped out and they hired Dev Patel I was a bit happier. I figured, hey he's not east asian, but he's a minority so maybe they'll start trying a little harder...

Now I see them turning the whole fire nation (which I think is fair to see as the "bad guys") into South Asians and Middle Easterners (I'm aware Cliff Curtis is New Zealand Maori but he still LOOKS South Asian), which--come on people--is kind of a little offensive A LOT. I mean, I know I'm south asian so it might just be me talking out of my ass, but seriously M. NIGHT?? Don't we get enough flack about supposedly being terrorists and Muslim fundamentalists? Now you have to make us the bad guy in Avatar? Give me a break.

Don't get me wrong, I mean I love the performances and talents of these individual actors, but I'm sure the talent wasn't limited to these brown guys. These casting fools should've known that even if the film takes place in an alternate universe, the race casting would bring cultural baggage from the reasl world with it.

Good grief, I don't think I'm totally vented but I should probably get back to school work. Let's all just hope that this movie doesn't turn into a total disaster.
